Diwali - Rangoli patterns

My first idea had been to develop purely abstract animations in which marks function as points of light, the concept being that without representational content light itself becomes the subject matter. While these initial experiments produced some interesting results I felt that visually they might be just too subtle and become lost in the background of the venue. I therefore experimented  developing a counterpoint graphic style of animation both to function alongside or use instead of these early works.

I looked for inspiration to traditional Ragnoli patterns which are used though out the Diwali festival. These icons were created initially in Adobe Illustrator and then imported into Aftereffects.
